PUSH FOR PEACE TOUR Joshua Tree California October 26 – January The PEACE PILGRIM (25,000 mile peace walk) and PAY IT FORWARD (Catherine Ryan Hyde Novel) were inspirations for Piano Bob's pushing a piano across the Mojave Desert to itinerate destinations UNKNOWN. The Tour begins with a PINK PIANO TOUR through downtown Joshua Tree during the Open Studio Tour. Pushing will be during the day towards on-coming traffic along Highway 62 and Adobe Road, November through January 2008. Rest stops include A ROADSIDE ATTRACTION, 9.4 miles east of Joshua Tree. Drivebyers are encouraged to stop and PLAY A PIANO PEACE FORWARD. Please be careful when stopping, and watch for soft sand! The Tour is Phase 3 of Piano Bob's PUBLIC PIANO PROJECT involving a weather-proofed day-glo pink piano installed outside a health food store for public use. Later Public Pianos were installed at the Beatnik Cafe, The Morongo Basin Hospice, A Roadside Attraction and The Palms Restaurant in Wonder Valley - totalling 6 public pianos. He moved to JT in the early 90's after 8 years at UCLA. He has hosted many music and noise events in the area and has invented and built numerous experimental musical instruments featured in the LA Times, Keyboard Magazine, and Experimental Musical Instrument Magazine. Most notable was his ACOUSTISIZER built from a 200 year old Viennese grand piano reconfigured with speakers and guitar pickups to create prepared piano feedback effects. The PUBLIC PIANO PROJECT was an outgrowth of his UJAM concept, which used experimental instruments to bring musicians and non-musicians together in a multi-timbrel drum-circle. Plans for spring include a live-in grand piano, DTLA skid row, to facilitate a Homeless Entertainment Center and a summer piano variety show entitled 8.8 PIANO EARTHQUAKE. End |
